Sydney exhibition 11th December 2008

It's been a very long time since I've posted... I'm hopeless, I know! London life was quite busy the last few months... all good...

I'm currently in my hometown of beautiful Sydney, Australia! If you're in town, please come along to GAFFA GALLERY on THURSDAY NIGHT (Dec. 11th) for the exhibition opening (any UK people reading this - "opening" is the Aussie version of what you call "private view" in the UK) of a group show that I am participating in.

Forgot to tell you all - check out www.rosarycoloma.com - it is now live! But unfortunately still half under construction. Hope to be fully functional soon.

Would like to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to Molin Iglesia, Trish Ngo and Sebastian Stoj. I am extremely grateful!

Designersblock @ London Design Festival 08

As previously mentioned, I will be taking part in the Designersblock 08 exhibition as part of London Design Festival 08. I will be exhibiting with colleagues/friends Ben Tindale (of Mergatroid), Sam Morgan (of Spinifex) and Patrick McMillan.

This year's Designersblock exhibition has moved to a new venue, right in the heart of Covent Garden. Please find details below:

Hope to see you there!

p.s.
The Designersblock08 official launch party is the evening of September 18th (also when a lot of the other launch parties for the other LDF08 events/exhibitions are, so you'll have to do a lot of running around). Come party with us!
Designersblock is also having one on Sept. 17, hosted by the Norwegian Embassy and another on Sept. 20, hosted by Kithkin - but I think those two are private, invitation only ones sorry.

Busy London Design Festival Bees

This weekend (Sept. 7) is probably the last time my contemporary jewellery work will be making an appearance at The Backyard Markets for the time being (well indefinitely). I probably won't even be there this weekend, but hopefully my pieces will be, care of one of the other girls.
Stay tuned to find out if you'll still be seeing Joyce Wan and Bow Wasinondh at the art markets.

I'm just too busy with other projects at the moment, to make the art markets worth my while. This has been in the works for a while now but I just haven't been very good at updating news on the blog promptly. Apologies for not keeping the Aussies back home, in the loop, but I have been extremely busy with the madness that is the lead up to the London Design Festival 08.

Here's what I've been busy with:
- I have been undertaking an exciting internship at Established & Sons, who relocated to a new studio about a month ago. The brand spanking new 6000 sq foot studio + exhibition space/showroom will be officially launched during London Design Festival with a new exhibition/installation.
- I'm also working for renowned gallerist/curator, Libby Sellers (former Design Museum curator, now of Gallery Libby Sellers) for her "guerilla" gallery's exhibition 'Beau Sauvage' at Liberty, as part of London Design Festival and Frieze Art Fair.
- Last but not least... I have been accepted to participate, along with three other colleagues/friends in the famed Designersblock exhibition as part of London Design Festival.

More details soon.

New fun stuff

Here's a glimpse of a new, fun and playful production series of brooches and rings that I launched when we started the art markets. I don't know if they have an official title, but I guess I've affectionately been calling them my 'Stitch' series.

The work lives

I have pieces/bodies of work that I felt had run their course in Sydney, but it's as if they had a mind of their own and breathed new life in London. Here is some of the work that was revived for the Backyard Markets (one of the East London Art Markets - find out here):

NB: There are new, 2nd generation versions of the braille brooches that were born in London. They now also come as pendants. They are wooden, CNC routed pieces. You can find them at The Backyard Markets. Unfortunately, lazy me hasn't organized proper studio shots of that new series yet. Stay tuned...

Where are they now?

For all the East London Art Markets punters out there - you may have noticed that we have been moving around a bit since week one! Trying out Sundays, trying out different stall positions closer to the entrance, trying out different displays, etc. It has been a fun exercise, but alas, we are taking a break and have postponed our art market escapade for a few weeks. The other two girls are galavanting around Europe, while I stayed put in London to spend some quality time with the many Aussie visitors that have passed through this month.

I hope you have enjoyed our humble contribution to the London art market scene so far. Stay tuned for our next appearance mid-August.

[To the Aussies back home - apologies for not having photos of our market set up. Every week, in the hype of the day, it has slipped our minds to document it and we vow to do it the following week. So remains the cycle so far...]

SATURDAY MAY 31st 2008

The uber creative area of London's East End is about to experience the launch of yet another fabulous art market to add to the vibrant mix. The organisers of Sunday (Up)market and The Backyard Market (originally Sundays) are now launching The Backyard Market on a SATURDAY also!! Same venue - the creative hub of Truman Brewery/Brick Lane.
*see www.sundayupmarket.co.uk for further details*

Please join myself and my two dear friends and colleagues, Bow Wasinondh and Joyce Wan at our stall no. 49 (see floor plan) to celebrate the launch on Saturday May 31st 2008 (10am - 5pm). Come and have a chinwag, browse our work, buy our work, or buy me a coffee even!

It should be a fun day out! Our fellow creatives at Spitalfields Markets are also nearby. The Backyard SATURDAY launch is also to coincide with the launch weekend of Free-Range - Graduate Art & Design Summer Shows at the Truman Brewery ("Europe's largest showcase of graduate art and design").
*see www.free-range.org.uk for further details*

Otherwise, if you can't make it for the launch weekend, you can still find us there every Saturday thereafter.

Welcome to my space!

Until an official website is launched, this will be the designated place to find out about my work in the meantime. I hope you enjoy the journey with me...
